智能音乐这个学科，又叫计算机音乐，已经有超过三十年的历史了。当我说我的研究领域是“计算机音乐”的时候，很多我的朋友都很惊愕，他们表示计算机和音乐好像是两个离得非常远的领域。其实，计算机和音乐有着非常深层次的联系。
那为什么要学习计算机音乐呢？起码有四点理由：第一，计算机音乐是一个前沿的学科；第二，你会获得一项非常特殊的技能。第三，我想也是最重要的，就是你可以学会一种交叉学科的思辨能力。最后呢，如果学的好，你还可以获得一份特别牛的特别酷的工作。那么就让我们一起来，走进智能音乐吧。
Computer Music has a history of more than 30 years. Whenever I mention that my research field is "computer music", many of my friends were shocked. They said that computers and music seem to be two very distant fields. In fact, computers and music have a very deep connection.
Then why study computer music? There are at least four reasons. First, computer music is a cutting-edge subject; second, you will acquire a very special skill. Third, and the most important thing is that you can gain interdisciplinary thinking ability. Finally, if you do it well, you can also get a really cool job. Gus Xia is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, NYU Shanghai; Global Network Assistant Professor, NYU. Professor Xia also holds an affiliated faculty appointment with NYU Tandon. He holds a PhD in Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University, where he worked with Prof. Roger Dannenberg.
